What are your responsibilities? Oversee staff of 150 producing The Daily Californian, UC Berkeley's independent student newspaper. Final say on editorial decisions. Manage $1 million annual budget.

What's a typical workday? The best thing about working in the news is that there's no such thing as a typical workday.

Background: High school and college reporting and editing.

What are the skills young journalists need today? Journalists need to be a one-person-show. Not only do they need to be able to report and write, they should know how to take photographs, shoot video, and produce multimedia. The fundamentals are critical, but no longer enough.

Any advice to aspiring journalists? Keep pushing the boundaries. Journalism is constantly changing, and it will be innovative journalists who will succeed.
